Debra D. Kurtz

Debra D. “Debbie” (Backlund) Kurtz, age 66, of Superior, passed away peacefully in the early morning on Thursday, April 30, 2020 at Solvay Hospice House with her daughter Shelby by her side. Debbie was born in Superior, WI on February 12, 1954, the daughter of Audrey and Marvin Backlund. She resided in Superior her entire life, graduating from Superior Senior High School in 1972.

Debbie, an avid Vikings fan, also enjoyed many years of playing softball and curling and later spent countless time golfing and working at Pattison Park Golf Course, a place she truly loved.

After several years employed at the Superior Sears store until it’s closing, she began a long career in sales. The last twenty years were spent at Tri-State Business Systems until her recent retirement.

Deb was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Shelby (Tyler Dalbec) Kurtz, and Shelby’s father, Ed (Rita) Kurtz; grandchildren, Payge (Tyler Parzych) and Payton; sister, Vicki (Rickie) Anderson along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and countless dear friends.

The Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home is assisting the family, but with respect to Debbie’s wishes, no visitation or service will be held.

The family would like to thank the employees of Essentia Health and Solvay Hospice House for the caring and compassion they gave mom during this difficult time. A very special thank you to mom’s friends who reached out with loving words that made her smile to the end.
