Delores E. Mackie

Delores Eleanor Mackie, 89, longtime area resident, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Twin Ports Health in Superior. She was born in Oulu, WI on December 27, 1934, the daughter of Jacob and Ethel (Maki) Lehto.

Growing up in Oulu, Delores graduated from South Shore High School in the class of 1952. Soon after, she moved to Minneapolis, MN and began working for Northwestern National Bank. Delores later moved back to the area and lived in Superior until her passing.

She was united in marriage to Robert E. Mackie on April 24, 1954, in Ironwood, MI. They celebrated fifty-seven wonderful years together before his passing in 2012.

Delores loved many things like cooking, canning, singing, dancing, shopping, and crossword puzzles, but most of all, Delores loved taking care of and being with her family. She was a wonderful woman who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her children Kevin (Shelia) Mackie, Kim (David) Kulas, Kerry Mackie, and Karla (Roy) Langford; grandchildren Tara (Sam) Almadhoun, Jill (Jake Hanson) Kulas, Jari (Leah) Mackie, Sarah (William) Decker, Sophie Kulas, Maija (Seth) Korhonen, Paul (Faith) Langford, Alexandra Langford, Daniel Kulas (Rachel), and Halie Mackie; fourteen great-grandchildren; siblings Lloyd (Caryl) Lehto, Maxine Magerl, Murray Jackson, Marlene (Jim) Dewling, Janice Edwards, and Dale (Darlene) Edwards; sister-in-law Daphne Hansen; and many nieces and nephews.

Delores is preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert; parents Jacob and Ethel Lehto; stepfather Daniel Edwards; stepmother Fran Lehto; brothers-in-law Henry Mackie and Gil Magerl; and sister-in-law Ruth Heino.

Delores’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Twin Ports Health and Aspirus St. Luke’s Hospice, for their wonderful care of Delores.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, 2022 E. 2nd Street in Superior, and will continue until the Memorial Service at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Sarah Gunderson officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
