Delores C. Nelson

Delores C. Nelson, 71, Superior, formerly of Iron River, died Sunday, December 5, 2010 in St. Mary’s Medical Center, Duluth under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care and her Family.

She was born on April 15, 1939 in Alliance, Nebraska to Earl and Norma (Hooper) Pelander.

She was married to Charles Nelson in Holdridge, Nebraska in 1956 and they celebrated 50 years of marriage.  He preceded her in death on June 12, 2007.

She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Superior where she also served as a volunteer for their Food Shelf.

She had formerly been a member for many years at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Iron River.

Over the years she had been very active in the Rebekah organization at both the state and local level. She was a member of the Iron River Rebekah Lodge No. 192 , currently serving as Vice Grand after previously serving three terms as Noble Grand.

In 1994 Delores served as President of the Rebekah Assembly of Wisconsin and served as International Representative in 1995.

She was currently serving as Inside Guardian and Trustee as well as President of the Wisconsin Rebekah- Odd Fellows Association.

She was also a member and co-founder of the Foxy Ladies Red Hat Society of Superior. In addition to her husband,

Delores was preceded in death by her parents.   Delores loved her family very much and will be dearly missed by all of them.

She is survived by one daughter, Betty (Gordon) Nelson-Lahti, San Francisco, CA; two sons, William Nelson, Bayport , MN, Robert Nelson, Omaha, NE, seven grandchildren, Jeremiah (Aimee) Glonek, Captain Joshua (Dana) Glonek, Sarah Glonek, David Nelson, William Nelson, Jr., Russell Nelson and Angela Belt; four great-grandchildren; one brother Carl E Pelander and one sister Leitha R (Guadalupe) Galindo, both of San Antonio, TX and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Thursday, December 16, 2010 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home and will continue at 10:00 AM Friday, December 17, 2010 at Faith United Methodist Church, Superior with a Rebekah Memorial Service at 10:30 AM.
The Funeral Service will follow with Pastor Joel Certa-Werner, officiating.

Burial will be in the Iron River Cemetery in Iron River, WI Pallbearers for the service will be Jeremiah Glonek. Joshua Glonek, Sarah Glonek, Aimee Glonek, Steve Nelson and Chris Scribner.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Rebekah Lodge 192, Iron River, WI.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to either the Oddfellow Rebekah Memory Care Unit or Faith United Methodist Church.
