Dennis J. “Denny Bear” White, 60, Maple, died Saturday, December 3, 2011 in Essentia Health St. Mary’s, Duluth, MN following a brief and courageous battle with mesothelioma.
He was born on November 11, 1951 in Chicago, IL to Joseph and Elsie (Haukkala) Podolak.
He graduated in 1969 from Dundee Community High School in Carpentersville, IL.
He married Judy Makie on December 23, 1972 in Maple, WI and would have celebrated thirty-nine years of marriage.
He was a member of Local 633 Cement Masons Union of which he was a business agent for the past fifteen years.
He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying, fishing, hunting and golfing the senior league at Botten’s Green Acres Golf Course.
He also enjoyed vegetable gardening.
Dennis enjoyed over eighty trips to Las Vegas and was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago White Sox fan.
In addition to his wife Judy, Dennis is survived by one brother, Michael “Mickey” (Cindy Wald) White, Appleton, WI; two aunts, Carol (Jack) Gartner, Superior, Doris Haukkala, Maple; one uncle, Alvin (Mary) Haukkala, Brule; two nephews, Zachary and Jordan White; one brother-in-law, Duane (Sandy Siekkinen) Makie, Lake Nebagamon, WI; two sisters-in-law, Jeanette (Robert) Faust, Denver, CO, Lola (Greg) Blackledge, Somerset, WI and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father Joseph Podolak; adoptive father, Jim White; mother, Elsie White; maternal grandparents, Oscar and Elizabeth Haukkala; two uncles, Marvin Haukkala and Harold Haukkala and one nephew Joshua White.
Visitation will begin at 12 Noon until the 1:00 PM Memorial Service on Saturday, December 10, 2011 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home with Rev. Patrick Ziems, of Zion Lutheran Church, officiating.
