Diane “Punky” Hietala, 68, lifelong area resident died unexpectedly from natural causes on Monday, June 13, 2022, at her home in Minong, WI.
She was born in Superior, Wisconsin on July 17, 1953, to Bill and Diane (McCauley) Hietala.
Diane loved horses, camping, and trail riding. Her nature name was “Running with Horses”. Her interest in carpentry led to her building her own cabinets. She was self-employed in childcare and worked at the Challenge Center in Superior. Above all, Diane was a loving mother, grandmother and sister and loved her family and friends beyond measure. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Diane is survived by her daughter, Billie Jo (Mark) Gorsuch, Rockford, Il; sisters Desi (Rick) Horn, Gordon, WI; and Jacki Hietala, Superior, WI; brother, Wayde (Leslie) Hietala, Superior, WI; granddaughter, Taylor Gorsuch (Fiancé Michael Romonouski), Rockford, Il; grandson Logan (Cassandra) Gorsuch, Colorado; granddaughter NoraLee Cleve (Jason and Della Cleve) Richmond, VA; a great granddaughter, Evelyn Gorsuch, Colorado; and ex-husband, David Wermter, Hawthorne, WI.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Gary, Jon, Ariel “Butch” and Brian.
A Celebration of Diane’s Life will be held from 1:00-4:00 PM, Friday, July 15, 2022, at the Hawthorne Town Hall, 7221 Town Rd, Hawthorne WI, 54842.
