Doloris Korhonen

April 6, 1932 — December 8, 2010

Doloris Irene Korhonen, 78, Superior, went to be with her parents and siblings that went before her, on December 8, 2010.

She was born on April 6, 1932 in Oulu, WI to Charles and Irene Johnson.

Doloris loved to visit the casino and with her winnings she would buy all kinds of presents for the kids and grandkids and let them pick what they wanted from her “present room”.

You could never leave the house without Mom saying, “Wait a minute now, I was going to give you something.”

She loved to plant flowers in the spring and enjoyed sitting on the deck and visiting with us kids.
She would always give you a card on your birthday with little houses drawn inside with stick people. She had many December birthdays, and they are all missing those cards and the love she would sent their way.

After Doloris raised five children and babysat for many neighborhood children, she decided to join the work force. She was talked into working for the Billings Park Café with her friend, Ann Carrigan. From there she went to work at Cronstrom’s Supper Club where she was the salad preparer and made many friends there, that she truly enjoyed.

Doloris will be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Doloris is survived by one son, Douglas (Susan) Korhonen, St. Louis, MO; four daughters, Sandra (Jeff) Little, Darla Korhonen, Debbie (Scott) Stewart and Jodi Willoughby, all of Superior; one brother, Melvin (Maryanne) Johnson; two sisters, June Johnson and Evelyn (Bill) Culhane; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild with her second one on the way. She would have loved to be here for their birth, as babies were her favorite.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Carol Archambeau, Dorothy Alholm, Howard Johnson, Eugene Johnson and Leslie Johnson; her former husband, John Korhonen and special friends, Gary Kusatz and Arnold Saari.

The family would like to express their gratitude to her special caregiver and friend, Karen Aho, who was with our mother for years and we cherish the love you showed her. John and Renae Fryt, her neighbors, who were always there for her. Mother treated John like a surrogate husband. He came to help her and hold her hand if she needed someone. If he didn’t do things the way she wanted, she would scold him. That never bothered him, they would both laugh about it later.
We would also like to thank Northern Bridges and Amy for providing her with such wonderful caregivers. And finally, we would like to thank hospice and the caregivers they provided.
She spent her final days at the beautiful and serene Solvay Hospice House.

Your children thank you for all that you have been and done for them and will sadly miss you until we join you. Until then Mom, rest in peace.

There will be a Graveside Service at 11:00 AM at the Everest Cemetery in Waino, WI on Friday, June 3, 2011 with John Fryt officiating.
