Donald Berube, 94, Longtime Maple and Brule area resident, died Saturday, March 28, 2015 at St Luke’s Hospital, Hospice Unit, Duluth, MN
He was born in Ashland, Wisconsin on December 20, 1920 the son of Frank and Florence (Russell) Berube.
Donald graduated from Iron River High School and attended the former Superior State Teacher College in Superior.
He served his Country in the United States Army AirForce.
Donald married Judy Maki on November 1, 1985 in Menomonee, Michigan and would have celebrated thirty years of marriage.
He was a fifty year member of the Bong-Hofsted American Legion Post #409 and the Rural Letter Carriers Association for many years.
Donald was an avid outdoorsman and he loved golfing, hunting, fishing, reading with gardening being his real passion.
He was employed by the Soo Line Railroad as a brakeman; the Douglas County Forestry; a Conservation Officer for the DNR; served on the Maple School Board for twelve years; Botten’s Plumbing; and on the Poplar Golf Course grounds Crew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lorraine Armagust; two brothers, Lawrence and Gene Berube.
Donald is survived by his wife Judy, Maple, WI; two daughters, Florence (Mick) Killoren, Brule, WI and Tara (Justin) Howland, Maple, WI; one son, Bob (Catherine) Berube, Iron River, WI; seven grandchildren, Matt (Casey) Berube, Peter (Karen) Berube, David Berube; Sarah Henry; Betsy (Patrick) Barrett; Autumn Howland and Ava Howland; nine great-grandchildren, Austin, Alex, Marley, Jack, Ellie, Harrison, William, Marin and Griffin; his canine best friend Willie and several nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers for the service will be Duane Makie, Marvin Peterson, Don Gustafson, Justin Howland, Jack Glonek and Mick Killoren.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 2, 2015 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 East 5 th Street, Superior and continue until the 12:00 Noon Funeral Service with Pastor Phillip Hooper of St. John’s Free Lutheran Church in Duluth, officiating.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Bong Hofstedt American Legion Post # 409.
