In Loving Memory of Donald Gerald Greely
November 25, 1944 – May 4, 2025

Donald Gerald Greely, age 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN, surrounded by family. Born in Superior, WI, on November 25, 1944, to Harold and Evelyn (Nelson) Greely.  Don was a lifelong resident until recently, when he moved to Woodbury, MN, to be closer to his family. He lived a life rooted in love, community, and service.

A proud graduate of Central High School, Class of 1962, Don went on to serve his country honorably in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany, where he attained the rank of Sergeant. In October 1967, Don married the love of his life, Judith (Judy) Greely, and together they celebrated 57 wonderful years of marriage this past fall—years filled with laughter, love, partnership, deep devotion to family, and countless joyous memories.

He built a fulfilling career with Refrigeration Wholesalers (formerly NTCC), where he worked his entire professional life. As Regional Manager, he took great pride in serving his customers, many of whom became friends. He was dedicated, hardworking, and genuinely loved helping others.

Don’s sense of community and friendship ran deep. He was a proud member of the Elks Lodge 403, Moose Lodge 606, the Superior Trap and Gun Club—where he enjoyed shooting trap—and the Superior Curling Club, which was among his greatest lifelong passions. He first picked up a curling broom in high school and continued playing into his sixties. A dedicated member, Don not only played in men’s and mixed leagues but also helped make and maintain the curling ice. He participated in and also helped manage countless bonspiels. His remarkable contributions to the sport and the club were recognized with a well-deserved Lifetime Achievement Award.

He found joy in casting a line while fishing, golfing in both men's and mixed leagues, and navigating the waters on his boat. Don loved to travel. He also spent many happy years camping with family and friends.

Social by nature, Don loved meeting new people and never missed an opportunity to make friends. He had a sharp wit, a warm presence, and a deep love for the Green Bay Packers. He was also a lifelong fan of music—especially Doo-Wop, which brought him much joy over the years.

What Don loved most of all was spending time with Judy, their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many friends who became family over the years. His presence was a steady source of love—always showing up with fun wit, strength, and support.

Don is survived by his beloved wife, Judy Greely of Woodbury, MN; daughter Kimberly (Jeff) Greely-Dicks of Woodbury, MN; son Jeffery (Julie) Greely of Chanhassen, MN; grandchildren: Kailey Dicks, Ryan Dicks, Casey Greely, Avery Greely, and Michael (Jenna) Dicks; and great-grandchildren: Hayley, McKenna, Asher, and Braelynn. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Greely; and several nieces and nephews, all of whom he held dear.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Evelyn (Nelson) Greely; his sister, Bonnie Gilbert; brother-in-law, Tom Gilbert; and sister-in-law, Sandy Greely.

A Celebration of Don's Life will held from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at the Superior Curling Club, 4700 Tower Ave in Superior, to honor Don’s memory and the lasting legacy he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed and forever loved. Military Honors will be accorded at 3:30 PM by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Don's name, to the Douglas County Humane Society, 138 Moccasin Mike Road, Superior, WI 54880; or a charity of your choice.
