Donald V. Gustafson

Donald V. Gustafson, 74, of South Range, WI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Essentia Health St. Mary’s in Duluth, MN with his wife and daughter by his side, after courageously battling a lengthy illness.

Don was born in Superior, WI on June 12, 1949, the son of Russell and Elsie (Saalasti) Gustafson.

He graduated from Northwestern High School in 1967.

Don married Susan Olson on June 26, 1971, and they shared fifty-two unforgettable years together.

He served his country honorably in the United States Army from April 1969 to January 1971. He retired from Barko Hydraulics after working there for many years and made many lasting friendships.

Don’s hobbies included working in his yard, 4-wheeling, and rooting for the Badgers, Brewers, and the Green Bay Packers. He especially loved spending time with his many dear friends and family. Don’s younger years were filled with camping, boating, riding his Harley, hunting, and many fishing adventures with his brothers-in-law and friends.

Don had a great sense of humor and was an eternal optimist that could see the bright side of any situation. He will be missed beyond words by all that knew him and loved him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sue; daughter Lisa Gustafson (Darren Coryell); brother Dale (Gina) Gustafson; sisters Diane Hildebrandt and Doris (Mike) Lemone; and many nieces and nephews.

Don in preceded in death by his parents Russell and Elsie; son Dennis; brother Dennis; and sister Delores Johnson.

A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held from 1:00 – 4:00 PM on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the Log Cabin Tavern, 2821 County Rd. E in South Range.
