Donald G. Johnson

November 3, 1929 — November 7, 2024

Donald Gene Johnson, 95, lifetime Superior resident passed away November 7, 2024, at Twin Ports Health Services in Superior, WI. He was born November 3, 1929, the son of Edward D and Cora M (Johnsen) Johnson in Superior.

He graduated from Superior Central High School in 1948.
Donald married the love of his life Shirley I. Johnson (Carroll) in May of 1951. They celebrated 65 years of marriage before her passing in March of 2017.

After graduating high school Don played for many town baseball teams as the pitcher. His talent on the mound led to the town of Neenah winning its first Fox Valley Championship at City Stadium in Green Bay. This led to an invitation to Spring Training with the Cleveland Indians. Don was unable to accept the invitation but always cherished the opportunity.

Don served his country in Korea from 1951-1953.

Along with his father and brothers, they formed Four Star Construction, Inc. in Superior and Don served as the president for many years until his retirement. In his free time, Don enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s sporting events.

After retiring he continued his lifelong love of hunting, including Elk in Montana and Colorado, Moose hunting in Alaska, and deer hunting in WI well into his eighties. Don also fulfilled his retirement by building a pond on his property and raised many species of trout to the delight of neighborhood children who were invited to fish.

Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife, parents, and siblings.

He is survived by his children Ken Johnson, Hudson, WI, Duane (Trish) Johnson, Hudson, WI, Gary (Becky) Johnson, Superior, Peggy (Tim) Olson, Superior and Tom (Liz) Johnson, Gordon WI; as well as 7 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Twin Ports Health Services and Essentia Hospice Care for their wonderful care of Dad. Special thanks to Shelley, Bridget, Shannon, Stephanie, and Barry.

Services to be held in the spring.
