Donald Seidlitz

December 24, 1936 — March 29, 2015

Donald Seidlitz, 78, longtime Superior area resident, passed away peacefully with his stepdaughter, Kimberly, and niece, Rebecca, by his side on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth.

He was born at home on December 24, 1936 in Cornell, WI, the son of Edward and Lorraine (Waggoner) Seidlitz. Don graduated from Cornell High School in 1954, and joined the United States Army, serving his country until 1956. He attended UW Eau Claire from 1956 to 1958 and UW Madison from 1958 to 1960 earning a degree in Economics.

Don was employed by the Social Security Administration Office from 1960 to 1995 as a claims representative in Milwaukee, Chicago, Waukesha and Superior. He held various positions in the Superior office and was the office supervisor when he retired in 1995 after more than thirty-five years of service.

Don married his best friend and fishing partner, Nancy Sharpe, on September 8, 1979. Don and Nancy enjoyed time with family and friends at the cabin on Big Sissabagama near Stone Lake, WI where they fished and Don hunted. He also enjoyed fishing on the Brule River and annual trips to Crow Lake in Nestor Falls, Canada with friends and relatives. Don and Nancy were snowbirds for several years in Weslaco, TX. Don loved his Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers.

Don was of a member of the Elks Lodge #403 for over thirty years, as well as the Moose Lodge #606, the American Legion Post 435 and the member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Survivors include step-daughter, Kimberly (Scott) Singer, Mahtomedi, MN; two grandchildren, Rachael and Matthew Singer; sister, Sue Roth; brother, Keith (Luann) Seidlitz of Cornell, WI; and many nieces and nephews, including Rebecca Sharpe, niece and caregiver, Superior.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; parents; sister, Judy Hebert; brothers, Richard and Gary Seidlitz; and stepson, Del Simmerman.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, April 3, 2015 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 East 5th Street, Superior. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 4th, 2015 with visitation one hour prior at the funeral home.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Nancy J. Seidlitz, Elks Memorial Scholarship Fund.
