Donna M. Knickrehm, 80, lifelong South Superior resident, died Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth. She was born in Superior, WI on February 24, 1933 to John and Antoinette (Mencel) Kania.
She married Charles A. Knickrehm, Sr. on January 23, 1954 and celebrated forty-six years of marriage before his passing in May of 2000.
Donna was a lifelong active member of Holy Assumption Catholic Church. She also was a member of the American Legion Bong #435, Letter Carriers Auxiliary, DAV, UCT, TOPS and was the president of the resident council at Golden Living Center. She was a crossing guard for the Superior School District in South Superior for many, many years. She enjoyed playing bingo and the penny machines at the casino, crocheting, gardening, canning, berry picking and word search puzzles.
Donna is survived by three daughters, Mary Rogers, NJ, Anne (Merl) Kitto and Carol (Ken) Chipman, both of Superior, WI; one son, Charles A. Knickrehm, Jr., Superior, WI; seven grandchildren, Cameo (Al) DeDominces, Ashley, Sydnee and Jacob Chipman, Aaron Knickrehm, Amber and Autumn Rogers; five great-grandchildren, Cooper, Tucker, Orien, Aurora and Maddy and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Charles, grandchildren Eric Knickrehm and Andrew Ferris, her parents, sisters Rose Krisak, Josephine Ritchie and Agnes Rasmussen and brothers Edward and Lawrence Kania.
Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM on Sunday, November 3, 2013 in the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior and continue until the 6:00 PM Scripture Service.
Visitation will resume at Holy Assumption Catholic Church, 5601 Tower Avenue, Superior on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 11:00 AM and continue until the 12:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Ronald Olson as celebrant.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Superior.
Pallbearers for the service will be Donna’s grandsons, Aaron Knickrehm and Jacob Chipman, Mike Rainaldo, Al DeDominces, Howard Rasmussen and Ken Chipman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Donna’s son Charles and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
