Doreen Kay Schaller, 68, whom was a longtime resident of Lake Nebagamon, WI died peacefully on June 26, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Duluth, MN, with family by her side.
Doreen was born August 17, 1952, in Bessemer, Michigan to Norman & Helia Holm. Doreen graduated from Ironwood High School in 1970. Doreen married Larry Schaller on June 8, 1974. They recently celebrated 47 years of marriage. In 1974 she began working in the West End Mall Hair Fashions which she ended up owning until 1976. Larry and Doreen decided to start a family and they decided that Doreen would stay home to raise their 4 wonderful daughters: Kolleen, Kathleen, Joann, and Amanda. Doreen was a dedicated wife, mom, grandma, and friend.
In 1989, Doreen opened Schaller’s Variety Store in Lake Nebagamon which she ran for 20 years.
Doreen took great pride in her 7 grandchildren. She enjoyed watching them in sports, entertaining them with fireworks and giving them treats from the store. She loved having family gatherings, cooking for the whole family and going down to the beach for some swimming or fishing. The last six years Larry and Doreen have enjoyed being snowbirds in Mesa, AZ. Mom always loved calling home to the family to let them know what the latest hot temperature was.
Doreen was preceded in death by her parents Norman and Helia Holm. Doreen is survived by her loving husband of 47 years Larry Schaller, daughters: Kolleen (Rich) Oswskey, Kathleen Schaller, Joann (Rob) Lietha and Amanda (Dave) Sjoberg; grandchildren: Brooklyn, Brecken & Bryce Oswskey, Gavin Ward, Tyler and Greta Lietha, and David Landon Sjoberg, sisters Marcia (Nick) Nelson; Sherry Holm along with many wonderful nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lake Nebagamon, WI on July 11, 2021, with visitation from 1:00 p.m.- 2:00 p.m. Service will begin at 2 p.m. with Pastor Kyle officiating. There will be a luncheon following immediately after the service. There will be a private family burial at Highland Cemetery. Lenroot Funeral Home will be assisting the family with arrangements.
