Dorleen Ann Waite

January 9, 1928 — June 18, 2010

Dorleen Ann Waite, 82, Superior resident, died Friday, June 18, 2010 at Villa Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center in Superior following a lengthy illness.

She was born on January 9, 1928 in Superior to Andrew and Anna (Oie) Bergeson.

Dorleen graduated from the former Superior Central High School in 1945 and from UW-Superior in May of 1949 with a B.S. degree in teaching.

On July 8, 1950 she married Jack C. Waite at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Superior and would have celebrated sixty years of marriage in July.

Her teaching career at several Superior elementary schools covered thirty-two years.
Following Jack’s retirements, the two snowbirds stayed in Mesa, AZ for many years.

Preceding her in death were her parents, and a son, Brad Waite.

She is survived by her husband, Jack; daughter, Cynthia (Thomas) Kleinendorst, Andover, MN; two grandchildren, Heidi (Greg) Oxendale, Isanti, MN and Andrew Kleinendorst, Andover, MN; and a great-grandson, Ethan Oxendale, Isanti, MN; sister-in-law, Roberta Nelson, Superior, WI and brother-in-law, David (Dianne) Waite, Superior, WI and several nieces and nephews.

Dorleen was a charter member of the Superior Jaycettes serving as its Treasurer for several years. A former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church before it merged with Our Savior’s Lutheran and now attends Zion Lutheran Church. She was also a member of SAREA (Superior Area Retired Educators Association), WREA (Wisconsin Retired Educators Association) and the Alumni Association of UWS.
Dorleen was an avid reader and enjoyed current events. She treasured her contacts with teaching associates and will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by many who knew her.

If you so desire, memorials may be sent to The Salvation Army, Humane Society or SAREA.

A gathering of family and friends, to celebrate Dorleen's life, will be from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Friday, June 25, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church, 2022 E. 2nd Street, Superior. A private inurnment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery Columbarium.

The family wishes to express its sincere thanks to the staff at Villa Marina for the wonderful care and compassion given to Dorleen while she was a resident.
