Dorothy Gloria (Archambault) Murray, 95, passed away at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, MN on Monday, October 21, 2019 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on November 3, 1923 in Superior, WI to Whitney and Freeda (Hill) Archambault.
Dorothy, a life-long Superior resident, was the oldest of nine children who grew up during the Great Depression. She graduated from Superior Central High School and married James D. Murray with whom she had ten children. After eighteen years of a most difficult marriage, Dorothy went on to raise those ten siblings single-handedly. This tremendous endeavor was her single most treasured mission which she accomplished with unflagging love and tenderness. After her youngest children left home, Dorothy assumed her second act, employed by Big Duluth Clothing until her retirement. Thereafter she embarked on act three, as Grandmother extraordinaire and created a wonderful bond caring for her beloved grandchildren, especially Janie, Chad, Nick, Mark and Brett who will bear her mark forever.
Though her last four years had presented considerable health challenges, she was equal to the task and maintained a loving, giving, cheerful presence for all. Her last seven weeks at Solvay Hospice House, though difficult, were also weeks of astonishing, loving care of the nursing staff and she stole their hearts too.
She was a member of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church.
Dorothy is survived by five sons, John Murray, Gordon, WI, Bill Murray and Don (Carolyn) Murray, both of Superior, WI, Steve (Sue) Murray, Gordon, WI and Tracey (Mary Kay) Murray, Superior, WI; twenty-three grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; four sisters, Shirley Senenfelder, Minneapolis, MN, Elayne Lancour, Hawthorne, WI, Marilyn (Dennis) Piggott, Wascott, WI and Patricia Archambault, Superior, WI; two brothers, Eugene Archambault, FL and Ronald (Sandy) Archambault, Appleton, WI and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband James; sons Michael, Tim and Dennis; daughters Jane Fonger and Kathleen A. Johnson; and brothers Whitney Archambeau, Jr. and John Archambault.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 25, 2019 and continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Mass at Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Superior at a later date.
