Dorothy (Dolly) Anne Benson, 92, of Superior, WI passed away peacefully Saturday, December 2, 2023 surrounded by family at Villa Marina in Superior, WI. Dorothy was born October 17, 1931 in Duluth, MN, the daughter of Arthur and Helga Johnson. Her family moved to Superior in 1944 where she graduated from Central High School. Dorothy attended and graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing. She was united in marriage to William Benson on March 21, 1953 at Dorothy’s family home. They celebrated 65 years of marriage before Bill’s passing in 2018. After several moves to Il, MI and MN, they settled in Superior.
Dorothy was a wonderful, loving Mother who stayed home for many years to raise her three daughters, before going back to work as an OB Nurse at Superior Memorial Hospital. For over 20 years, she enjoyed all areas of her job; labor, delivery and the nursery. Outside of her nursing career, Dorothy loved spending time with her family, especially at the cabin at Lake Nebagamon, WI. She was a lifelong member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, an excellent seamstress, loved knitting, crocheting, playing piano and violin, as well as baking, especially for Christmas.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William Benson, sister Muriel Hanson, and brother Arthur Johnson.
Dorothy is deeply missed by her three daughters, Anne (Paul) Missinne, Spooner, WI, Linda (Paul) Parish, Webster, WI, Stephanie (Brian) Vik, Eden Prairie, MN, 6 grandchildren: Eric, Christina, Adrienne, Lauren, Vince, Ashley and 10 great grandchildren.
The family is grateful to the skilled and loving staff of Villa Marina of Superior and thankful for the compassionate care given to Dorothy.
If desired, memorials may be given in Dorothy’s name to Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Superior, WI.
Visitation begins at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 820 Belknap Street, Superior, and will continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Service with Pastor Tanner Howard officiating.
Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, Superior, Wisconsin.
