Dorothy M. Sleva

Dorothy M. Sleva, 93, passed away June 3, 2010 at the Golden Living Center. She was born December 22, 1916 to Carl and Lillian Nelson and was a lifetime Superior resident.

She graduated from East High School and attended the Superior Vocational School. She was employed at the Draft Board and then the Social Security Office, retiring in 1973 after 30 years of service.

She is a member of Faith United Methodist Church and was originally a member of the former First United Methodist Church where she was very active and performed such duties as financial secretary, Sunday greeter, and UMW Sunshine chairman.

Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her friends, playing cards at the Senior Center, taking walks and going on bus trips. In her earlier years she enjoyed golfing and bowling.

She has been a member of the United Methodist Women, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Lake Superior Ragtime Society, and Superior Garden Club.

She is survived by her daughter Carol (Richard) Palm, The Villages, FL, granddaughter Laura West, Hudson, WI and stepgranddaughter Julie Palm, Winston-Salem, NC.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard (1977), and grandson, Gregory West (1999).

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dorothy's name may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, the Salvation Army, St. Jude or a charity of choice.

The family would like to thank the staff at Golden Living Center for their loving care of Dorothy for the past four years.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Funeral Service on Monday, June 7, 2010 at Faith United Methodist Church with Pastor Joel Certa-Werner officiating.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
