Douglas "Doug" J. Schultz

October 23, 1937 — November 28, 2014

Douglas “Doug” James Schultz, 77, died on Friday, November 28, 2014 at the Solvay Hospice House, Duluth, MN following an exhausting year long battle with cancer.

He was born on October 23, 1937 in Chaffey/Foxboro, WI on the farm, homesteaded by his parents Glenn and Margaret (Dopp) Schultz. Doug was one of nine children. Doug moved to Superior and married Patricia Dyleski in August of 1959. They had two children, Debra (Robert) Latscher and Douglas II.

Doug was known to be a hard worker. He loved working with his hands, which were never idle and usually holding a carpenters tool. He was fun loving with a good sense of humor.

Doug worked for Famous Foods until its closure in 1982 then retired from Service Printers in Duluth, MN.

Following the death of his wife in 1990, he moved to Solon Springs, WI where he was known to many as Uncle Buck. Doug could usually be found working on a tractor or cutting firewood with his deer and turkey friends following behind. Doug was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, rummage sales and camping at the Gordon Dam with his brother Don and his nephews.

In his younger years, he looked forward to spending time with his son and nephews during hunting season. He continued to enjoy the company of all his nephews throughout his years.

His greatest joys in life were the times spent with his grandsons, granddaughter, and great-grandson who proudly share his name. Doug’s family will sorely miss his presence.

Besides his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his wife, Patty in 1990; son, Douglas in 1989; two brothers, Bob and Bernard Schultz; friend and brother-in- law, Donald Anderson.

Survivors include daughter, Debbie; son-in-law Bob; grandsons, Robert and Matthew Latscher; granddaughter, Kristen Latscher; great- grandson, Douglas J. Latscher; special nephew, Gerald Olson; sisters, Margaret, Eleanor, Donna and Bev; brothers, Glenn and Donald and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Superior, where a 10:00 AM Rosary Service will be conducted. Visitation will continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Mass with Rev. Fr. James Tobolski as celebrant.

Honorary pallbearers for the service will be his grandchildren and great-grandson.
