Douglas John Shykes

Douglas John Shykes, 63, longtime Superior resident, passed away, Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Essentia Hospital in Duluth, MN. He was born March 25, 1956 at Fort Benning Hospital in Columbus, GA, to parents, John and Beth (McLean) Shykes.

He attended Cooper School, St. Patrick’s Grade School, Central Junior High; graduated from Superior Senior High School, and went on to attend WITC in Mechanics and Drafting. He worked with his father most of his life as a mechanic and body man at his father’s place of business.

Doug was an avid pool player, and also won a baby contest in Columbus, GA.

He was preceded in death by his father, John “Jack” Shykes; and the love of his life, Kim Bleskan.

He is survived by his daughter, Josie Rose Shykes; mom, Beth Shykes; sisters, Jacquelyn Shykes, Peggy (Greg) Day, Amy (Tony Lancouer) Nichols; brothers, Kurt (Jean) Shykes, Todd Shykes; Aunts, Leona Ellis, Astrid Shykes, Dolores Shykes; Uncle, John (Catherine) McLean; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Friday, August 23, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church, 2022 E. 2 ^nd Street, Superior, and will continue until the 11:00 AM memorial service with Pastor Victor St. George officiating.
