Dr. Patrick C. Dorin

Dr. Patrick C. Dorin, 75, longtime Superior resident, unexpectedly went to be with his Lord, on Tuesday, November 18, 2014. He was born on February 12, 1939 in Chicago, IL to Aloysius and Grace (Maebius) Dorin.

He graduated from Emerson High School in Gary, IN . He received his B.A. Degree in Business Administration from Northland College in Ashland, WI; received his Masters Degree in education from Northern Michigan University; a Specialists Degree from Michigan State University in Marquette and then went on to receive his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

Pat went on to be a lifelong educator and administrator. Throughout his career he served the educational field as an elementary school educator and administrator; high school administrator; has served as a college professor at UMD, UWS and WITC , served on the Superior School Board for many years following his retirement and also volunteered to teach Senior Citizens transportation classes. He was also well published author having published 35 books on various topics but mostly about railroads.

Pat married Karen Foley on May13, 1961 in Ashland, WI and celebrated 53 years of marriage.

He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Pat was a lifelong railroad enthusiast and volunteered as a conductor at the Lake Superior Transportation Museum. He loved his model railroad. He was a strong supporter of the arts and loved going to the symphony and ballet.

Pat never missed a birthday or concert for his children or grandchildren. He could often be seen driving his grandchildren to their activities. He loved singing to his great-granddaughter, Isabella. He was so proud of family. His family was such a joy to him. He loved spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit and helping others. He will also be remembered for his honesty and integrity.

In addition to his wife Karen, Pat is survived by two daughters, Susan (Carl) Miller, Superior, Amy (Robert) Kobus, Portland, OR; three sons, Tom (Kate) Dorin, Superior, Michael (Judy) Dorin, Eden Prairie, MN, John Dorin, St. Paul, MN; nine grandchildren, Cierra, Patrick, Rebecca, Felicia (Michael), Senia, Samuel, Ailee, Andrew and Aliya and a special great-granddaughter, Isabella; two brothers, Louis (Carol) Dorin, Schererville, IN and William Dorin, Munster, IN.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Paul Joseph Dorin.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and will continue until the 11:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, November 24, 2014 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. James Tobolski as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery.

Pat’s grandchildren will be recognized as pallbearers.
