Dr. Robert G. Trauba, 88, Duluth resident for the last six years and former longtime Superior resident since 1951, died Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the Benedictine Health Center in Duluth.
He was born on May 24, 1925 in Wausau, WI to Charles and Regina (Deringer) Trauba.
Robert graduated from McDowell High School in 1944. In 1947, he received his B.S. Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, in 1950 received his Masters Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and in 1959 received his PhD from the University of Kansas.
He began his teaching career in Beloit, WI, teaching there for four years. He then went on to the University of Kansas for three years and then the University of Wisconsin-Superior. While as a Professor for UWS he served on the Department of Education Board and later became the Dean and he also served as Facility Emeritus for twenty-five years.
Robert was a member of the Alumni Association’s Alumni of UW-Eau Claire, UW-Madison and the University of Kansas. He was the Past President of the Douglas County Fish and Game League and Past President of the North Wisconsin/ Lake Superior Education Association. His other memberships include the Brule River Sportsman’s Club, the Elk’s Lodge and Kiwanis Club, both of Superior and the Clam Lake Community Club.
Robert is survived by his children, Polly (James) Brownson, Davenport, IA, Christine (Bill) Kimbler, Merrifield, MN, Tom Trauba, FL, John (Vicki) Trauba, Superior, WI, Jenny (Tom) Claes, Downers Grove, IL, and Robert Trauba, Jr., Pine River, MN; five grandchildren, Steele, Michael and Shea Trauba, Brandon Van Damme and Arianna DePlacito; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard “Dick” Trauba, Andover, MN.
He is preceded in death by his wife Bonita, brother Charles “Buster” Trauba and sister Joan O’Brien.
Visitation will begin at 12:30 PM on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the Benedictine Health Center Chapel, 935 Kenwood Avenue, Duluth, MN and continue until the 1:30 PM Memorial Mass.
