Dr. Walter William Pawlikowski Jr.
Walter William Pawlikowski Jr., 76 died peacefully on July 4 2015 surrounded by his loving family members after a long illness.
He was born on December 10, 1938.
Walter grew up in Superior graduating from Cathedral High School in 1957. He received a bachelor’s degree (1961) from UW- Superior, a master’s degree (1964) in Chemistry from South Dakota-Purdue and a doctorate degree in chemistry (1970) from Loyola University in Chicago.
Walt spent several years as an industrial chemist for G. D. Searle and Co. in Skokie, IL, then moving on to be a research chemist for Witco Chemical Company in Chicago, IL and ultimately completing his career at 3M in research and development in St. Paul, MN. Walt worked on many innovative and new products for 3M. He had patents for the machinery and products that are still in use today.
He retired in 1994 moving back to Superior.
Walt had many good times fishing and hunting. Collecting was a
passion and he enjoyed going to the auctions. He had a generous spirit always sharing his “great finds” with family and friends. He loved all things fishing including boats and motors and was President of the Antique Outboard Motor Club for a time. He was an avid carpenter, painter and artist. He gave his energy and finances to others and was more like a father/grandfather to many of his family members. He was an active member of St Anthony’s Catholic Church in Superior and had a strong and personal relationship with God. Walt was especially devoted to the Virgin Mary and said the rosary daily.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Margaret (DeBruyne) Pawlikowski. He is survived by siblings James (Pat) Pawlikowski, Superior, WI, Thomas (Sharon) Pawlikowski, Tower, MN, Mary Jo (Mike) Palmowski, Eveleth, MN , Julie (Doug) Toms, Cincinnati, OH, Betty Kay (Tom Hudacek) Pawlikowski, Superior, WI and many nieces and nephews.
A special thank you goes to Dr. Plachta and the St. Luke’s Hospice staff for their kindness and compassion during Walt’s illness.
A Celebration of Life is planned Thursday, July 9, 2015 with visitation starting at 1:00 PM at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Superior and continuing until the 2:00 PM Memorial Mass with Rev. Father Leon Flaherty as celebrant.
Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery, Superior.
The family requests donations to St. Anthony’s Church in lieu of flowers. Walt, you would always leave without saying good bye so we will not say good bye to you now, we will keep you with us in our hearts.
The Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
