Earl W. Blomfelt

Beloved Superior teacher, Earl William Blomfelt, 77, of Superior, Wisconsin, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2014, after a long battle with dementia, and finally succumbed to pneumonia.

Earl was born in Oulu, Wisconsin on February 5, 1937. He graduated from Central High School and continued on to receive a Bachelor’s of Science Degree and a Masters in Education from the University of Wisconsin at Superior.

Earl was a beloved and respected teacher at Superior Senior High School from its opening in 1965, until his retirement in 1999, teaching introductory and Advanced Chemistry to generations of Superior’s youth.   He had also taught at East High School in Superior, served as principal of Wrenshall High School. He was the artisan behind the brickwork and cedar shake roofs on many of Superior’s homes.

He had a passionate love for northern Wisconsin, the Brule River, Russian History and deer hunting. He was an accomplished fly fisherman and knew every hidden trout stream within fifty miles of Iron River. He was actively involved in his church, serving for many years as an usher captain and as a church councilman.

Earl is survived by his cherished wife of 54 years, Joan Marlene Blomfelt (Anderson) whom he married on July 25, 1959; by his two children, Terri A. Kildow and her husband Alan, and Todd E. Blomfelt and his wife Brenda; three beautiful grandchildren – his princess Emma, who is loved by everyone, just like her grandfather; Owen, who carries his genius for building and his inexhaustible patience; and Evan, with whom he shared a profound and special bond; his brother, Eugene, and his sister, Diane.

Visitation will begin at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 820 Belknap Street, Superior and will continue until the 4:00 PM funeral service.

Pallbearers for the service will be Michael Anderson, Eugene Blomfelt, Dean Hecht, Richard Lange, Charles Wright and James Waletzko.

Burial will occur the following day at Riverside Cemetery, Superior.

The family would like to thank the staff of St. Luke’s Hospice for their excellent care and concern during his final days.
