Earl A. Carignan

Earl A. Carignan, 71, of Iron River, WI (formerly of Superior, WI), died peacefully on Saturday, July 18, 2020, at Solvay Hospice House following a four-year battle with cancer.

Earl was born in Ashland, WI, to Robert and Clara Ann (Thompson) Carignan. He grew up and attended school in Superior, maintaining lifelong friendships with his North End boys. Earl worked for various employers before purchasing his first tavern in the city of Superior in the late 1980s. Over the following two decades, he purchased, updated and operated several successful taverns such as Carignan’s, Key West and CC Tap. He relocated to Iron River in 2006, operating Carignan’s Bar, Uncle Bob’s Bowling, and the 300 Grill.

Earl’s interests included golf, bowling, motorcycles, fast cars and remodeling any house or building he ever owned. He had a big personality and sense of humor that were either well received or not, there was no middle ground. He was outgoing and opinionated, standing up for what he believed in. He was also kind-hearted and generous with family and friends, along with donating to various causes within his community.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his children, Chris (Lori) Carignan, Shane (Holly) Carignan, Tia (Jay) O’Leary, Shawn Carignan, and Caitlyn Carignan, and grandchildren, Chelsea, Ivy, Lily, Rose, Meadow, Jaxon, Ryder and Mason. He is also survived by brother Bruce (Kathy Olson) Carignan and sisters Jill (Dan) Crist and Kim (Ray) Zifko, along with nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 15, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Carignan’s Bar, 68290 S. Main Street, Iron River.
