Edna E. Swenson

Edna E. Swenson, 88, Superior, died Friday, April 18, 2014 at Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on December 31, 1925 in Maple, WI to Paul and Ann (Lukkarila) Tyykila.

She graduated from the former Central High School and went on to earn her Registered Nursing Degree from the St. Luke’s Nursing Program in Duluth.

She married Loyd Swenson on April 7, 1956 and celebrated 58 years of marriage.

She was employed as an RN at several hospitals in Duluth, Superior, Tacoma and Lancaster, Grant county public nurse and retired at the Lancaster nursing home.

Edna was a member of Bayside Baptist Church.

She was an artist for over 50 years painting with watercolors. Her last painting of a cabin in Ely was completed in 2012.

She enjoyed music and playing the organ. She loved reading the Bible and was involved in serving other through Bible studies and sharing Christ’s message with others and she will be most remembered for her Christian walk.

Her family was a very important part of her life and she loved spending time with her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Britta, Luke and Joseph.

In addition to her husband Loyd, Edna is survived by one son, Keith (Becky) Swenson, Howard Lake, MN; one daughter, LuAnn (Danny) Webster, Rowlett, TX; four grandchildren; two sisters, Florece Hurley, Sugarland, TX, Alice Jacobson, Woodstock, GA and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and several sisters and brothers.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and will continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Service on Monday, April 21, 2014 at the Bayside Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Pavola, officiating.

Burial will be in the Poplar Cemetery.

Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangments.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Bayside Baptist Church Building Fund in Superior or to Mission Covenant Church Building Fund in Poplar.
