Edward C. Anderson, 85, Middle River, WI, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 20, 2010, surrounded by his family.
He was born on August 5, 1925 in Falun, WI to George and Hulda (Johnson) Anderson.
Ed was a 1942 graduate of the former Superior Central High School.
He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II having received five stars in the Asiatic Campaign and served in the Battle of Leyte Gulf and subsequently served in the Merchant Marine and Great Lakes Fleet.
Ed married Kathleen “Kay” Gilbert on September 8, 1958 and celebrated fifty-two years of marriage.
He was employed in the maintenance department of Murphy Oil for many years and he was the owner/operator of Middle River Repair.
Ed was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Nebagamon where he served on the Property Committee. He was an avid supporter of the Amnicon Volunteer Fire Department, he participated in the “Jaws” fishing tournament for many years and was the captain of the “Katydid”.
In addition to his wife Kay, Ed is survived by one daughter, Nancy (Shawn) Brede, Ashland, WI; three sons, John (Kim) Anderson, Hawthorne, WI, Bill (Carolyn) Anderson, Lake Nebagamon, WI, Mark (Brenda) Anderson, South Range, WI; twelve grandchildren Jessica, Stephanie, Ashlie, Phillip, McCauley, Amanda, Michael, Nolan, Meredith, Natalie, Kristina and Kaylyn; one great-grandson, Orson; one sister, Louella Waisanen, Gresham, OR and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Marjorie Harris and Genevieve “Gen” Dinda and three brothers, Bill, Chet and Ron Anderson.
Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM until the 12 Noon Memorial Service on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Nebagamon with Pastor Darrell Kyle, officiating.
Inurnment will be Lake Nebagamon Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Navy Operations Support Center, Minneapolis and the Duluth Combine Honor Guard.
Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
