Edward “Gene” DeRosia, 88, longtime resident of Superior and Iron River, currently of Hayward, died Thursday, November 10, 2016.
He was born June 18, 1928 in Maple, WI, the son of William and Mytle (Sharp) DeRosia. He was the second oldest of sixteen children.
He married Joan Sunderland on July 7, 1951 at the former St. Louis Catholic Church, and they celebrated 53 years of marriage before her passing in 2005.
Gene served his country in the United States Army as a Corporal assigned to the 807th Engineer Equipment Company, stationed in Germany.
He was employed as a Maintenance Technician with the former Northwestern Bell and AT&T for twenty seven years before his retirement in 1984.
Gene was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers and the Iron River VFW Post #10197.
He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, and spending time with family and friends. He especially enjoyed his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his five daughters, Vicki Peterson, Cloquet, MN, Cathy (Bill) Jaglowski, Hayward, WI, Robbin (Denny) Erickson, Hillsdale, WI, Gail Stish, Hudson, WI and Janice (Dan) Swenson, Poplar, WI; three sons, David (Faye) DeRosia, Ojibwa, WI, Alan DeRosia, Rice Lake, WI and John (Sue) DeRosia, Dallas, WI; sixteen grandchildren, Jenny (James) Miller, Jana Poukka, Melissa (Jenn) Ewing-Jaglowski, Nicole (Michael) Klasko, Matthew Erickson, Logan and Landan Swenson, David DeRosia Jr., Amy (Ernie) Grandadam, Della Yardley, Jessica DeRosia, Eric (Candi) DeRosia, Crystal DeRosia, Josh (Katie) DeRosia, Amanda (Chris) Weise, Ashley (Mikey) Huebner and Sarah (Missy) Epstein; and twenty three great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife Joan; his parents and his infant daughter, Elizabeth; brother, Richard DeRosia; sisters, Bernadine Sletten, Loretta Greer, Rita DeRosia, Margaret DeRosia and Theresa Crane.
Visitation will be at 10:00 AM and continue until the 11:00 AM Funeral Mass of Christian Burial, with Fr. Adam Laski as celebrant, on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 4315 East Third Street, Superior, where military honors will be accorded.
Inurnment will take place in St. Anne Cemetery in Blueberry, WI.
