Edward Zelma, 83, Superior, WI, passed away April 6, 2021 at Superior Rehabilitation Center. He was born May 12, 1937 in Superior, WI to Frank and Helen (Simrak) Zelma.
Ed graduated from Cathedral High School and attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He completed his Electrician courses in Kansas.
Ed married Jeanette Sutherland on October 6, 1956 in Superior, WI.
He retired from Burlington Northern Railroad where he was an employed Electrician. Prior to that he worked at Superwood where he did his apprenticeship and became an Electrician. He was a member of The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union and The International Pulp Sulfide Workers Union, where he served as a Grievance Secretary. Ed also worked at various gas stations as an Auto Mechanic.
He loved spending time with his family. Enjoyed family vacations to resorts and campgrounds throughout Wisconsin in addition to get-a-ways to the cabin in Iron River. Ed enjoyed fishing, playing cards and dice, shooting pool, and playing darts. He had an infectious passion for being a collector of Hot Wheels, Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Series, and railroad nostalgia in addition to coins and stamps.
Ed is survived by son, Thomas (Amy) Zelma of Lancaster, OH; daughter, Tammy Zelma of Superior, WI; grandchildren, Alissa Hicks-Olson of Superior, WI; Brandon (Haley) Zelma of Lancaster, OH; Katie (Noah) Watkins of Nelsonville, OH and Drew Lasko of Lancaster, OH; great-grandchildren Brantley and Eldridge Zelma of Lancaster, OH; sister Betty Peterson of Superior, WI and several nieces and nephews.
Ed is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Jeanette; son, Scott Zelma; his father and mother, stepfather, Stephen Mihalik; stepbrother, James Mihalik and stepsister, Helen Skandel.
The Zelma family is grateful for the care and compassion given to their father/grandfather by the staff at the Superior Rehabilitation Center and a family friend, Becky.
A Celebration of Life will be held for both Edward and Jeanette Zelma, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, Friday, May 14, 2021 at Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5th Street, Superior. Service is at 1:00 PM with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci officiating.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, 3424 E. Highway 105, Superior, WI.
