Elaine R. De Vinck, 93, longtime Superior resident, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.
Elaine was born on June 18, 1928 in Superior, the daughter of Emil and Rose (Van Landschoot) Ruthgeerts. She graduated from Superior East High School in 1946 and worked briefly for the US Treasury Department (Chicago) and the HW Brace Company (Superior) prior to her marriage to Terrance R. (Terry) De Vinck in 1950. Elaine was employed as a secretary/bookkeeper in the Minneapolis zone loan office of the Packard Motor Company while Terry completed his final year of study at the University of Minnesota.
Elaine took great pride in her home and garden. She had a remarkable memory and looked forward to working the Duluth News Tribune crossword puzzle daily.
A full-blooded Belgian, Elaine grew up in the Allouez neighborhood of Superior, where her grandparents, Emil and Amelia (Smet) Ruthgeerts were a founding family of Superior’s century-old Belgian Club.
Elaine is survived by her six children: Nancy (Pat) Pickett, Mountain Iron, MN.; Sandy Hill, Janesville, WI.; Debbie (Mike) McGahey, Prior Lake, MN.; Linda (Dave) Borgen, Bloomington, MN.; Brian De Vinck, Oak Park, IL; and Beth (Jeff) Neuendorf, Lino Lakes, MN.; nine grandchildren, Rob, Lori, Erik, Pam, Dustin, Nikki, Kyle, Will and Jena; one sister, Marie Ruthgeerts, and many great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Terry, parents Emil and Rose Ruthgeerts and brother Joseph Ruthgeerts.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 11 at St Anthony Catholic Church, 4315 E. 3 rd Street in Superior. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and continue until the 11 AM Memorial Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci officiating, luncheon to follow.
