Eleanor E. Heytens, 86, Superior resident, died Sunday, November 19, 2017 at the Benedictine Health Center in Duluth, MN. She was born on October 24, 1931 in Falun, WI to Timmy and Evelyn (Hanson) Thoreson. Eleanor’s family moved to Superior when she was eleven years old and she remained a resident of Superior the rest of her life.
Eleanor graduated from Superior East High School in 1949. She married Roger Heytens on April 15, 1950 and they celebrated fifty-nine years of marriage before his passing in July of 2009. Eleanor was a member of St. Francis Church, the Red Hat Society, the Tuesday Afternoon Quilters, the St. Francis Travelers, and the Homemakers Club. She volunteered at St. Mary’s Essentia Hospital and enjoyed spending time with her family, watching the Brewers and Packers and her time at her Iron River cabin.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings Dagmar Linde, Elwood Thoreson, Eileen McClintock, and Richard Thoreson.
Eleanor is survived by five children, Jackie Heytens (Jerry), Superior, Diane Nelson (Dave), New Richmond, Nancy Murray (Mike), Superior, Tim Heytens (Desiree), Superior, and Bill Heytens (Sally), Superior; twelve grandchildren, Peter Nelson, Haifa, Israel, Maria Nelson, Chicago, Patty Nelson, Houston, TX, Todd Murray (Kelly), Minneapolis, Ryan Murray (Elise), Madison, Steven Murray, Minneapolis, Matt Heytens, Tyler, TX, Andy Heytens, Litchfield Park, AZ, Brady Heytens, Superior, Toby Heytens (Sarah), Charlottesville, VA, Troy Heytens (Laura), Metarie, LA, Heidi Sigfrids (Dave), Superior; ten great-grandchildren, Rocco, Ani, Enza, Viola, Grant, Caleb, Isaac, Olivia, Jackson and Brynn; three siblings, Beverly Lundgren, Superior, Don Thoreson (Phyllis), Anoka, MN, Kermit Thoreson (Lenora), Spicer, MN and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM on Monday, November 27, 2017 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and continue until the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. James Tobolski as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Superior. Pallbearers for the service will be Eleanor’s grandchildren.
