Elizabeth “Betty” Nelson, 69, Minong resident, died peacefully surrounded by her family following a courageous twenty-nine year battle with breast cancer on Monday, October 8, 2012 at her home.
She was born on January 4, 1943 in Stevens Point, WI to Joseph and Frances (Lisiecki) Scipior.
Betty graduated from Maria High School in Stevens Point, WI.
She was employed as a Librarian for the Northwoods School District for thirty-seven years.
She married Edward Nelson on May 9, 1964 and celebrated forty-eight years of marriage.
Betty was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Minong and its Altar Society and served as a Eucharistic Minister.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and especially loved doing anything with her grandchildren. She also loved gardening, playing bridge, golfing, cooking and fishing.
She is survived by her husband, Edward; daughter, Elizabeth J. “Libby” (Todd) Smith, Rice Lake, WI; son, Chuck Nelson, Minong, WI; her mother, Frances; three grandchildren, Ethan, Emily and Ella; two sisters, Joan (Don Frederiksen) Scipior, Minneapolis, MN and Carolyn McKee, Stevens Point, WI; three brothers, James Scipior and Larry (Darlene) Scipior, both of Stevens Point, WI and Dennis Scipior, Wausau, WI and several nieces and nephews.
Betty is preceded in death by her father, Joseph Scipior.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Minong and continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Mass with Rev. Fr. James Kinney as celebrant.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Minong.
