Elizabeth J. Reijo

Elizabeth “Betty” Jacobson Reijo, 95, died peacefully on March 22, 2024, at Willow Manor Assisted Living in Iron River, WI. She was born on June 18, 1928, in Hurley, WI to Heino and Ina (Colby) Jacobson.

On June 30, 1945, she was united in marriage to Roy Reijo. They celebrated fifty years of marriage until his passing in early 1996.

Roy and Betty farmed beef and dairy cattle and raised five children on his family farm in Oulu and later moved to their home on Lake Millicent in Iron River. Although she loved her lake home, her heart always remained on the farm.

Betty was a very active member of Hope Lutheran Church, where she lovingly devoted her time as a Martha Circle president, quilter, and Fig Leaf volunteer. She also dedicated her life to sixty-four years of employment at the Oulu and Iron River Co-ops, retiring at the age of 81.

Her hobbies included rug making, knitting, crocheting, and making quilts and Finnish pasties for her entire family. She will always be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother, and a friend to everyone she met.

She is survived by one daughter, Sandy (David) Kovacic; three sons, Duane (Diana) Reijo, David (Patti) Reijo, and Donnie (Tammi) Reijo; daughter-in-law Nancy Reijo; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; sister Barbara (Bob) Anderson; special cousin and uncle Lorraine Litz and Emil Colby; special friend Marlene Mackey; numerous other cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, husband Roy, son Dennis Reijo, daughter-in-law Taffy Reijo, brother Clifford Jacobson, and sisters Irene Koski and Janet Follis.

The family would like to thank the staff at Willow Manor and Essentia Hospice Duluth, for the wonderful care they provided Betty over the past three years and also the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home for their services.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Hope Lutheran Church, 2500 Co. Hwy B in Brule/Oulu, WI, and will continue until the Memorial Service at 11:00 AM with Rev. Scott Stai as officiant.
