Ellen R. Schorr

Ellen Roberta Schorr, 89, longtime Superior resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, MN. She was born in Omaha, Nebraska on May 10, 1934, the daughter of Clarence and Bessie Crawford.

Ellen met and married her husband, Leon, in Omaha, Nebraska, in April 1954. Leon served in the Air Force for many years allowing them to travel to many countries and US states. They loved to dance and polka together.

Ellen worked for the Corps of Engineers in Alaska, the Air Force in California, and the BLM and IRS in Duluth, Minnesota.

She loved to travel and to socialize with her many friends and family, and to go out to lunch. She belonged to several clubs including the Sunnyside Club, NARF, Widows & Widowers, and Wild Club.

Ellen was never without a dog as a friend, and she called them her “babies.”

Ellen had a kind and generous heart, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her children, William Schorr, Sandra Hess, Janet Shaffer, and George Schorr, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great­ grandchildren.

Ellen is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leon; her parents; her two sisters, Joyce, and June; a brother, Robert James; and two children, Mary Beth, and Robert James.

A Celebration of Ellen's Life will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at Vintage Italian Pizza, 1201 Tower Ave in Superior, with a Service of Remembrance at 5:00 PM with Pastor Darrell Kyle officiating.
