Elna A. Johnson, 92, longtime Maple area resident, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2014 at Essentia Health/St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN.
She was born on December 9, 1921 in Maple, WI to Matt and Maria (Lepisto) Tyykila.
Elna owned and operated a family dairy farm with her husband, Edward Levo in Maple for over 25 years. She sold the farm in 1968 and moved to Milwaukee, WI where she married, Harland Johnson in 1973. She was employed at the Doctor’s Hospital in Milwaukee for many years before moving back to Maple in approximately 1992.
She was a longtime active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Maple where she was a member of its Dorcus Circle and the church choir. She also enjoyed baking, quilting, loved polka dancing, needle craft, macramé, making doilies and mittens for many.
Elna is survived by one daughter, Jean “Arlene” Lachenmyer, Arizona; one son, Howard (Gail) Levo, Lake Nebagamon, WI; two grandchildren, Paula Bertram, Colorado; Ryann (Eric Cronise) Levo, New York; one great-granddaughter, Cassy Bertram; four sisters, Helen Niemi, Maple, Bertha Mikkola, Maple, Violet Anderson, Iron River, Maryann Lahti, Oulu and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Edward in 1965; her second husband, Harland; her parents; two sisters, Ailie Colby and Lillian Santiko; five brothers, Fred, Swen, Edward, Raymond and Irvin Tyykila.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and will continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Service on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Darrell Kyle, officiating.
Burial will be in Faith Lutheran Cemetery in Maple.
Elna’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Willow Manor for their wonderful care of Elna.
