Elsie Irene (Lintula) Kiiski, 94, lifelong area resident, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2017 with her loving family by her side.
She was born on February 24, 1923 in the Town of Lakeside, WI to John and Olga Lintula.
She lived on a farm and went to North Middle River School, a one room school house. She walked a mile to school and was the only eighth grader. She attended Cedar Grove School for ninth and tenth grades, and eleventh and twelfth grades at Central High School, where she graduated in 1941. She got rides from neighbors and sometimes stayed with friends in Superior.
She married Uuno Kiiski on March 3, 1942 and they celebrated sixty-two years of marriage before his passing on June 6, 2004. She was the wife of a soldier who went off to boot camp the day after marrying, and served in WWII with General George Patton. During the war she lived with her parents for two and a half years. When Uuno returned from the war they farmed in Maple, WI where they raised three children. Elsie was a homemaker, 4H leader and worked in housekeeping at Middle River Health Facility.
She attended Hope Lutheran Church in Oulu, WI.
Elsie could always be found enjoying family picnics and gatherings. The summer of 1985, she made a trip to Finland with her husband, brother, Elmer (Kathy) and sister, Martha. There, a family reunion was held, where they were able to meet many relatives and cousins at a party.
She is survived by her daughter, Patsy (Axel) Wiitala, Maple, WI; sons, Tim (Peggy) Kiiski, and Tom (Rosie) Kiiski, all of Superior, WI; granddaughters, Lisa (Steve Prell) Schofield, WI, Tina (Dave) Cardinal, Proctor, MN, Angela (Mike) Dodge, Rosemount, MN, Alissa (Franklin) Romero, Onalaska, WI; great-granddaughters, Jordyn and Amber Prell, Payton Cardinal, Jadyn and Gracie Dodge, Ruby and Milly Romero; great-grandson, Albert Romero; sister-in-law, Kathy Lintula and several nieces, nephews and friends.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Uuno; parents, John and Olga; brothers George, William and Elmer; sisters, Marian Orville and Martha Ellis.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Villa Marina and St. Luke’s Hospital Hospice for the wonderful care they provided Elsie during her stay.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Hope Lutheran Church, 2500 County Highway B, Brule, WI, and will continue until the 1:00 PM funeral service with Pastor Scott Stai officiating.
Burial will be in Maple Memorial Cemetery.
