Emil J. Bratek, 92, lifelong Superior resident, died Friday, December 17, 2010 in Middle River Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born on September 9, 1917 in Superior to Jacob and Mary (Plewa) Bratek.
Emil served in the United States Army during World War II with the 32nd Red Arrow Infantry Division.
He was employed as a brakeman for the Soo Line Railroad for forty-three years, retiring in 1978.
Emil loved the Christmas season and enjoyed making Christmas decorations.
He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church; the United Transportation Union; Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen; AARP and the Thaddeus Kosciuczko Fraternal Aid Society.
Emil is survived by one sister, Stella Chelik, Superior; one brother, Joseph Bratek, South Range and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Wilma on February 17, 1997; a brother, Andrew Bratek and a sister, Ann Kolodziej.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Superior. Rev. Fr. Donald Kania will be celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.
