Emil DeNagel, 99, Iron River,WI died Tuesday, October 8, 2013 in his home. He was born on June 20, 1914 in Superior to Emil and Rosalie (Deneweth) DeNagel.
He graduated from the former Cathedral High School.
Emil married Frances Johnson on February 18, 1939 and celebrated seventy-one years of marriage before she passed away on August 10, 2010.
He was employed as an agent and telegrapher for the Burlington Northern Railroad for thirty-eight years before retiring in 1977. During the mid-forties and into the early fifties, Emil worked on the railroad at night and during the day he worked for John Lenroot at the Lenroot Funeral Home in Iron River and continued to work for John at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home when he moved the funeral home to Superior.
He was a member of the Iron River Presbyterian Church and the Church Session, he served on the Maple and Iron River School Boards for over twenty-five years where he served as president. He was a member of Cooperative Educational Service Agencies (CESA) for many years where he served as president.
Emil enjoyed repairing electronics, clocks and a multitude of other things. He also completed tax forms for people and enjoyed square dancing with the Brule River Squaranators.
Emil is survived by three daughters, Roberta (Bernie) Sajdak, Schroeder, MN, Faye Wick, Iron River, WI, Emily Spencer, Murfreesboro, TN; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren ; several nieces and nephews and his beloved companion, his cat, Harry.
In addition to his wife Frances, Emil was preceded in death by a grandson, Troy Wick; a brother, Victor DeNagel; and his parents.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the Iron River City Cemetery with Rev. H. Duane Aslyn, officiating.
Emil’s family would like to thank Diane, Kelly and Mary for their kind, compassion and care given to Emil.
