Emily J. Jerome

Emily J. Jerome, 92, Superior resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, MN. She was born on February 26, 1926 in Deer River, MN to Robert “Dewey” and Louise (Bruder) Phelps.

She grew up in Hibbing, MN and graduated from Hibbing High School in 1945. She married Joseph Jerome, Sr. on February 14, 1948 and they celebrated forty-eight years of marriage before his passing on July 14, 1996. Emily was a beautician for Mr. Cris Family Hair Care for many years retiring in 1986.  Emily loved cats, knitting, playing bingo and yahtzee. She enjoyed volunteering at the former St. Francis Home in the Park in Superior and at Long Ridge Senior Living Center in Bullhead City, AZ where she wintered for nineteen years.

Emily is survived by one son, Jerry Jerome, Poplar, WI; two daughters, Carol (Thomas) Sislo, Superior, WI and Louise Swenson, Blaine, MN; two special grandchildren, Michael Jerome, Northfield, MN and Jessica Jerome, Branson, MO and five additional grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Cathy) Phelps, Sparta, WI; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph Jerome, Sr., son Joseph Jerome, Jr. in 2010 and sisters Geraldine Curtis, Edna Matthees, Lorraine Puhek, Mary Ann Puhek and Bertha Porter and special friend Bill Koenen.

No public services will be held.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Emily’s name to the Humane Society of Douglas County. The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to New Perspectives staff and caregivers (past and present) for their care and support given to Emily.
