Ernest "Ernie" Nutt

Ernest “Ernie” Nutt, 80, Superior, died Saturday, February 25, 2012 at the Villa-Marina Health Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on May 26, 1931 in Poplar, WI to Edwin and Gilma (Barsness) Nutt.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Ernie married Josephine Burhans on April 14, 1956 in Mission Covenant Church in Poplar and celebrated fifty-one years of marriage before she passed away on October 1, 2007.

He was employed as an operator for United States Steel for many years.

He was a member of the Carlton VFW where he served on the Honor Guard and Superior Moose #606. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children and grandson Bill in previous years.

He owned and operated a dairy farm in Dewey. He always enjoyed helping family and friends wherever his efforts were needed.
Ernie is survived by three daughters, Becky Doherty, Superior, Mary (Pat) Remington, Superior, Evelyn (Kevin Daniels) Nutt, Blaine, MN; two sons, Clarence Nutt, Superior. George (Lori) Nutt, Pine City, MN; ten grandchildren, Bill (Rhonda Birk) Nutt, Woodville, WI, Michael (Hollie Helmbrecht) Nutt, Blaine, MN, Alan (Erin) Nutt, North Carolina and Afghanistan, Sally (Dave) Roos, Roberts, WI, Brad Remington, Superior, Kevin Remington, Florida, Gina Remington, Hoyt Lakes, MN, Amanda, Kaitlyn and Cody Nutt, all of Pine City, MN; many great-grandchildren; one sister, Irene Nelson, Ashland, WI and several nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his wife Josie, Ernie was preceded in death by a daughter, Sally Ann Nutt; a son, Gordon Robert Nutt; a sister Evelyn Nutt and his parents.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Thursday, March 1, 2012 and will continue at 10:00 AM Friday until the 11:00 AM Memorial Service on Friday, March 2, 2012 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home.
