Ernest W. Swenson

June 10, 1929 — August 27, 2011

Ernest W. Swenson, 82, lifelong Superior resident, died Saturday, August 27, 2011 in the Middle River Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on June 10, 1929 in Superior to Oscar and Alva (Schunning) Swenson.

He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.

He married Mary C. Daniels on May 16, 1959 and celebrated forty-five years of marriage before she passed away in 2004.

Ernest was employed as a brakeman for the Burlington Northern Railroad for forty-two years before retiring in 1990. After he retired from the railroad, he was employed with Enterprise Car Rental.

He was a former member of the Superior Masonic Lodge, the York Rite Bodies, the Aad Temple Shrine and it’s Clowns and was a life member of the Thomas F. Stein VFW Post #1091.

He enjoyed roller skating at the World of Wheels; enjoyed fishing and was an avid hunter and shot one of the largest deer in Wisconsin during one seasons. He also enjoyed traveling.

Ernest is survived by two daughters, Laurie Swenson Anderson, Denver, CO, Joni Swenson Hetrick, Bennett, WI; one son, Ernest Swenson, Wascott, WI; five grandchildren, Nina, Samantha, Nick, Ashley and Taylor; one great-granddaughter, Brooke and one sister, Dorothy Thompson, Duluth, MN. And several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife Mary he was preceded in death by his parents.


Visitation will begin at 12 Noon until the 1:00 PM Memorial Service on Thursday, September 1, 2011 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home with Pastor Sarah Kerkes of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
