Evelyn M. Preston

Evelyn M. “Sis” Preston, 92, longtime resident of Superior, WI, died peacefully on Monday, May 16, 2022, at Aspen Health in Hawthorne, WI with family by her side. She was born in Carrington, North Dakota on January 5, 1930, the daughter of John and Evelyn (Clark) Burgraff.

She graduated from the former Central High School in Superior and enjoyed her years at home raising her family.

She was united in marriage to Richard “Bud” Preston on May 5, 1958, in Milwaukee, WI, and they celebrated thirty years of marriage before his passing in August of 1988.

Sis was a member of the Apostolic Faith Assembly Church. She loved gardening, crocheting, knitting, sewing, and she had a special fondness for birds and elephants. Sis was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and aunt who will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her daughters, Gloria Plante and Cindie (Greg) Halonen, of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Lucinda (Bill) Smart and Becky (Darryl) Davey, of Superior, WI; sons, Michael Webster (Sharon Walstrom), Solon Springs, WI, Rick (Sandy) Preston, formerly of Solon Springs, WI, and John (Joy) Preston, St. Louis Park, MN; fifteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Donna Sanders, of the Twin Cities, and sister-in-law, Patti Burgraff, Solon Springs, WI.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bud; granddaughter, Jacqueline; son-in-law, Jesse Plante; daughter-in-law, Toni Webster; sisters, Barbara Jean Beach, and infant sister, Betty Burgraff; brothers, Stuart Burgraff, John Burgraff, Marvin (Char Samuelson) Burgraff; her parents, and brother-in-law, Russ “Skunk” Sanders.

Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM, Thursday, May 26, 2022, at the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home. 1304 Hammond Avenue in Superior and will continue until the 1:00 PM Funeral Service with Pastor Lincoln Fry officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Superior.
