Florence M. (Torvinen) Holmes, 87, longtime Superior area resident, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at the Hearth of Windermere Extended Care Facility in Indiana.
She was born on December 26, 1926 in Superior, WI to Grover and Florence (Guderrian) Hutchinson.
Florence graduated from high school in Superior and was the founding owner and operator of Globe News in Superior with her first husband Frank Torvinen for many years before they sold it to the current owner.
She was longtime active member of St. Alban the Martyr Episcopal Church in Superior. She enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge and gin rummy. She also enjoyed wintering in Arizona with her husband Bill Holmes and many friends.
Florence adored her daughter Crystal and enjoyed participating in the lives of her great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband Bill, Superior, WI and her daughter Crystal Decker, Anderson, Indiana, Florence is survived by two granddaughters, Paula and Sara, both of Indiana; seven great-grandchildren, Sophie, Nicholas, Noah, Austin, Cami, Forrest and Cameron and three nieces, Pam, Holly, Sandra.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Frank; her parents and three brothers.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM and will continue until the 12 Noon Funeral Service on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at St. Alban the Martyr Episcopal Church with Fr. Steven Burns, officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
