Floyd G. "Bing" Anderson

Floyd G. “Bing” Anderson, 91, longtime Port Wing resident, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at the Christian Community Home in Osceola, WI, surrounded by his family.

He was born on April 20, 1923 in Ellison Bay, WI to Oscar and Anna (Carlson) Anderson.

Bing married Viola Kolin October 18, 1943 and celebrated 71 years of marriage.

He started to work at a very young age, helping farmers. He moved to Port Wing in 1942 and began commercial fishing for L.E. Voight and Everett Johnson. In 1945 he and his three brothers started their own business in Milwaukee, Anderson Brothers Fishing and fished in many ports on the Great Lakes. In 1972, he went on his own and fished on Lake Superior.

Bing was interested in football and baseball and was the manager for South Shore baseball Upper 13 League and was a longtime supporter.

In 1958, Bing started the famous fish boil in Port Wing to make money for bats and balls for his team. It turned out to be a very big success. He was also a member of the Port Wing Heritage Society.

In addition to his wife Viola, Bing is survived by two daughters, Betty (Tom) Tapani, Chisago City, MN, Arlene Engen, Nashville, TN; five granddaughters, Lori (Dan) Tapani, Traci Tapani, Sheri (Louis) DeBartolo, Tammy (Brian) Seol, Jamie (Jonathan) Leal; eight great-grandchildren, Ailie, Emilee, Maija, Dominic, Julian, Gianni, Carsen and Rowen; two sisters, Rosaline Nydegger, Magdalene Halliday; one brother, Alvin (Sandy) Anderson and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Clarence and Clyde Anderson and a son-in-law, Dave Engen.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and will continue until the 11:00 AM Funeral Service on Monday, April 20, 2015 at the First Lutheran Church in Port Wing, with Pastor Nancy Hanson, officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Port Wing.

Pallbearers for the service will be Russell, Jim and Joe Bailey, Gary Carlson, Eric Johnson and Bucky Jardine.
