Frances DeNagel, 91, Iron River, WI, died Monday, August 9, 2010 in St. Luke’s
Hospital in Duluth, MN. She was born on August 15, 1918 in Wascott, WI to Hjalmer and Bessie (Bengston) Johnson and lived in Iron River since 1942.
She graduated from the former Central High School. She married Emil DeNagel on February 18, 1939 in Superior and celebrated seventy-one years of marriage.
She had been employed as a waitress for Vacha’s Restaurant and the Greentop both in Iron River.
Frances was a member of Iron River Presbyterian Church, its Ladies Aid Society and the Iron River Homemakers. She loved to sew, loved to make clothing for her family. She was known for her fabulous cooking, baking, knitting and crocheting. She enjoyed refinishing older wood furniture, square dancing, loved doing counted cross stitch for her family and she was an impeccable homemaker.
In addition to her husband Emil, Frances is survived by three daughters Roberta (Bernie) Sajdak, Schroeder, MN, Faye Wick, Iron River, WI, Emily Spencer, Murfreesboro, TN; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Ernest and two sisters, Katherine and Marguarite and a grandson, Troy Wick.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Thursday, August 12, 2010 until the 11:00 AM Funeral Service at the Iron River Presbyterian Church. Jim McCusker, lay minister of Darrow Road Wesleyan Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in the Iron River Cemetery.
Pallbearers for the service will be Tony, Todd and Anthony Wick, Thomas Naughton, Jeff and
Steve Sajdak and Daniel Bealieu.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
