Fred "Tiger" Schiffelbine

June 23, 1946 — March 30, 2011

Fred “Tiger” Schiffelbine, 64, lifelong Superior resident, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Villa Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center in Superior.

He was born on June 23, 1946 in Superior, WI to Fred J. and Evelyn (Samlaska) Schiffelbine.
He was a graduate of the former Central High School.

Fred sailed the Great Lakes with the Steinbrenner Steamship Company for many years and was also a microfilm tech with the Lighthouse for the Blind.

He married Margaret “Nan” Haydon on February 14, 1970 in Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church and recently celebrated forty-one years of marriage.

He was a member of the Elks’ Lodge.

Fred is survived by his wife, Margaret “Nan”, Superior, WI; daughter, Tina L. Simmons, Superior, WI; son, Fred A. Schiffelbine, Florida; grandchildren, Tyler J. and Kiera L. Simmons, both of Superior, WI and Scarlette Adalis Andcliff, Duluth, MN; several nieces and nephews; sister, Carol Bloxham, Superior; his dear friend, Al Westlund, Superior, WI and his dog, The Boo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barb Schiffelbine.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 4, 2011 in Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church and continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Mass with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Fred’s name to A.R.F. – Animal Rescue Federation of Douglas County.

The Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior is assisting the family with arrangements.
