Frederick E. “Butch” Gross, 77, longtime Brule area resident, died peacefully, Sunday, March 14, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, MN. He was born in Superior, WI on April 27, 1943, the son of Frederick E. and Louise (Matott) Gross Sr.
He graduated from Northwestern High School in Maple, WI and went on to serve his country honorably in the Army National Guard. He worked as a surveyor with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, retiring after thirty-five years of dedicated service.
Butch was united in marriage to JoAnn Orlikoski, December 15, 1993, and they recently celebrated twenty-seven years of marriage.
Butch loved to spend time with his family and wife, JoAnn. He took great pride in his Corvette. He enjoyed woodworking, watching Nascar, and attending car shows. Butch was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be dearly missed by all.
He is survived by his beloved wife, JoAnn of Brule, WI; sister Mary Lou Berg of Olathe, Kansas; daughters, Shelia Wald of Drummond, WI and Stacy (Occo) Wickman of Mason, WI; sons, Mark Gross of South Range, WI and Don (Jennifer) Gross of Redmond, OR; stepsons, Patrick Tyykila of South Range, WI and Matt (Rosemary) Tyykila of Spring Branch, TX; grandchildren, Madison, Braedon, Garrett and Wyatt Gross, Miranda, Iris and Oscar Wickman, Olivia and Ella Wald and Hallie (BJ) Skweres; step grandchildren, Connie (Garrett) Westlund, Leah Tyykila, Rachel (Martin) Salas, Kevin (Kathryn) Tyykila; and three great-grandchildren and one step great-grandson.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Brian Berg.
Per Butch’s wishes, no services will be held.
