G. Morley “Skip” Smith III, 64, died Saturday, April 17, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN. He was born on August 5, 1945 in Superior to G. Morley
Smith Jr. and Herdis (Lund) Smith Rico.
He graduated from Marquette University with a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting.
He was Chief Executive Officer of Saratoga Liquor, Inc.
Skip married Julie Mabry on May 2, 1975 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Superior and celebrated thirty-four years of marriage.
Skip was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church; he served on the Board of the YMCA previously serving as Board President and on the Board of Trustees. He was instrumental in creating the YMCA Foundation. He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited and the Lake Superior Steelhead Association.
Skip also was a member of the Wisconsin Wine and Spirits Institute of which he was currently serving as president and he was a member of Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America which he served various positions on the Board of Directors and on various committees.
In addition to his wife Julie, Skip is survived by two daughters, Leah (Troy) Broskovetz, Lyneham, England, Rachel (Seth) Womack, Alexandria, LA; his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Smith, Napoleon, ND; three grandchildren, Veronica, Benjamin and William Broskovetz; two brothers, Bruce (Doreen) Smith, Gordon, WI, Mark (Nancy) Smith, Superior; several nieces and nephews; his special friends, Phil Milroy, John Sheldroup, Jim Sislo and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son G. Morley “Buck” Smith IV and his parents.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM Thursday, April 29, 2010 at the Downs LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Ave.
Visitation will continue at 10:00 AM Friday, April 30, 2010 until the 11:00 AM Memorial Mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. James Tobolski, will be celebrant.
Burial will be in the Bennett Cemetery, Bennett, WI.
In lieu of flower, the family prefers donations to the Skip and Buck Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund, 3025 Tower Ave., Superior, WI 54880 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
