Garth H. Velin

Garth H. Velin, 20, lifelong Superior resident, died Tuesday, September 30, 2014. He was born on October 21, 1993 in Duluth, MN to Paul and Deborah (Giersdorf) Velin.

Garth graduated from Superior High School in 2012, attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the University of Wisconsin-Superior. He was employed with R.G.I.S. as an inventory specialist. Garth had participated and coached basketball for the Salvation Army, participated and coached flag football for the YMCA and participated in SYO baseball. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

“You may not be an angel, cuz angels are so few, but until the day that one comes along, I’ll string along with you...” You were a Godsend to your family and friends and all who knew you. Garth was a friend to all and a best friend to many. His smile and laughter could fill a room. He loved his family.

He is survived by his parents; two brothers Jon (Kelly Clark) Velin, Superior, Corey (Carrie) Velin, Superior; two nephews, Brady and Bentley Velin; three aunts Dianne (Tom) Andersen, Blame MN, Donna (Gordy) Huhta, Superior, Karen Malia, Brooklyn Center MN; three uncles Kevin Giersdorf, Mike Velin, Superior, Tom (Louise) Velin, Wascott, WI; his girlfriend, Hannah Ferrando, Superior, one great aunt, Teru Haling, El Paso, TX and many other cousins, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Gunnar; his maternal grandparents Drexel and Eleanor Giersdorf his paternal grandparents, Mark and Elsie Velin and a special aunt and namesake Amanda Haling, with whom he shared a birthday.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM and will continue until the 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at St. Francis Xavier Church with Rev. Fr. James Toboiski as celebrant.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
