Gary Allen Steltz (67), long time Superior, WI resident, died at Essentia Health on Thursday, May 18, 2023 in Duluth, MN. He was born in Superior, the son of Oscar and Margaret (Houle) Steltz on September 3, 1955.
Gary grew up in the North End of Superior. He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army. In June 1994, he married Elizabeth “Betsy” Obester in Superior, and they celebrated 28 years together. He was employed as a painter by Lakehead Painting for many years, and was a member of Painters, Local 106.
He was quite the handy man and did everything around the house. He loved camping and fishing. The Greenbay Packers was his favorite football team. Working scratch-offs had definite appeal and he enjoyed his music. But most of all, Gary loved his family and of course, his beloved dogs, BabyGirl and Mocha. Gary will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth “Betsy” Steltz; son Patrick Nelson, stepson Casey Miner; daughters Kaeli Steltz and Alexis Steltz; grandchildren Kairon Davis and Isaiah Berg; brothers Lenny (Joan) Steltz, Larry (Dawn) Steltz, Earl Steltz and Joey (Marcia) Steltz; sister Pat (Charles) Pruett; mother-in-law Pat “Mrs. P” Peterson; sister-in-law Terri (Bronco) Sikorski; brother-in-law Mike (Andrea) Obester; lifelong friend Corey Christ; and several nieces and nephews.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Sandy and Edna Steltz; brothers Ray, Chucky, Dale, Jeff and Brian Steltz.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 10, at Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church in Superior, followed by an 11:00 AM Memorial Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr.
