Geneva Utschinski, 92, longtime Superior area resident, died Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her family.
She was born on March 22, 1918 in Foreston, Minnesota the daughter of Charles and Josie (Neumann) Schwartz. Geneva graduated from High School in Milaca, MN.
She married Walter “Dutch” Utschinski on September 9, 1936 in Foreston, MN.
Geneva, in her earlier years work at the former Roth Brothers Department Store in Superior.
She enjoyed her lake home at Lake Nebagamon, WI. and
spent ten years wintering in Mesa, Arizona.
She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, St. Francis Altar Society and the former Onaway Club.
Geneva is survived by her daughter, Jane (Arnold) Prochazka, Superior, WI; her son-in-law, Robert J. Nanti, Gilbert, MN; five grandchildren, Mark (Suzanne) Prochazka, Superior, WI; Jill (Greg) Young, Superior, WI; Robert S. (Mary) Nanti, Gilbert, MN; Terry (Sheila) Nanti, Iron, MN and Jennifer (Michael) Sullivan, Cape Coral, Florida; seven great-grandchildren, Samantha and Addie Young; Natalie and Avery Prochazka and Jacob, Kyle and Kayla Nanti.
She was preceded in death by her husband Walter “Dutch” Utschinski in 1982; her mother and father; a daughter, Mary Kay Nanti; one granddaughter, Wendy Jo Prochazka; a sister, Dolores Schwartz Anderson; and three brothers, Lester, Carl and Russell Schwartz.
The family would like to thank the Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center and staff for the wonderful care and compassion given to Geneva during the last five years of her life.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and continue until the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Father James Tobolski as celebrant.
A Private burial will be at Lake Nebagamon Cemetery, Lake Nebagamon, WI.
Pallbearers for the service will be Robert J. Nanti, Robert S. Nanti, Terry Nanti, Arnie Prochazka, Mark Prochazka and Greg Young.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Relay For Life or St. Mary’s Hospice and Palliative Care.
